Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) - Black & Minority Ethnic is a term used to describe the Black & Minority Ethnic in the community. Minority Ethnic being a person or group of people from a different culture, religion or language to the main one in a particular place.
Community Empowerment Network (CEN) - is a Government initiative. It aims to support the community sector to fully take part in Local Strategic Partnerships (in Newcastle this is called the Newcastle Partnership).
Communications Sub Group (CSG) - a small working party consisting of 7 CV's and 1 member of staff working together to improve communications between CEN and local communities.
Community Voice (CV) - a representative from a community network who is nominated by a community group or network to represent them on the Local Strategic Partnership. See FAQ's for further information.
Community Voice Gathering (CVG) - Bi-monthly meeting for all CV's.
East End Community Development Alliance (EECDA) - An independent network of community and voluntary sector groups in the east end of Newcastle. See the EECDA website for further information.

Government Office North East (GONE) - represents central government across North East England. Based in the centre of Newcastle in Citygate, it represents eleven central government departments across the entire region. See the GONE website for further information.
INFRANET - Infrastructure Network - partnership between Newcastle Community Empowerment Network, Regen Forum, East End Community Development Alliance, West End Community Development Consortium, Outer West Area Forum and North Central Network. Local Area Agreement (LAA) - An agreement set between local and national government intending to give local authorities more flexibility in the way in which they set and meet targets and deliver public services. The focus is on a core set of outcomes and areas have much greater freedom to spend on local priorities. The LAA is a three year delivery plan.Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) - A £300 million Government scheme to encourage enterprise in some of the most deprived communities across the country. The competition for this LEGI money is very competitive and although the City has not been awarded a LEGI grant it nevertheless has developed it’s own action plan.
Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) - The Newcastle Partnership involves public sector (like the local authority, police and health), private sector (like local business) and community and voluntary organisations. See the Newcastle Partnership website for further information.
Newcastle Healthy City (NHC) - is an independent non-governmental organisation, which aims to: promote the health of citizens of Newcastle upon Tyne; reduce the inequalities in health between communities within the city Regen Forum. See the Healthy City website for further information.
Outer West Area Forum (OWAF) - A Forum that comes together to make a difference across five outer west wards – Denton, Lemington, Newburn, Westerhope and Woolsington. The Forum is made up of four community representatives from each of the wards. Their meetings are held bi-monthly to which local councillors are also invited.

Participatory Budgeting (PB) - Participatory budgeting (PB) is a mechanism of local government, which brings local communities closer to the decision-making process around the public budget. It is a flexible process, which has been implemented in varying forms across cities of all sizes. It works to enhance participation in local democracy whilst improving community cohesion and ensuring the delivery of cost-effective local services. Regen Forum - A network for voluntary organisations and other interested parties involved in regeneration. Regeneration is any activity which improves the quality of life for people suffering disadvantage in Newcastle. See the Regen Forum website for further information.
Stronger and Safer Communities Fund-Neighbourhood Element (SSCF-NE) - A Central Government fund which is targeted at deprived areas and communities. The Outer West part of Newcastle has received SSCFNE funding to be spent over a seven years period.
Steering Group (SG) - Consists of 13 members who provide governance (a structure) and shared ownership of the CEN in Newcastle, ensuring it is used effectively to meet the networks's objectives, and provides value for money and also advises the Newcastle Healthy City Project on the management (and provides direction) of the CEN staff team.

Voluntary Organisations’ Network North East (VONNE) - is the regional voluntary and community sector infrastructure organisation for North East England. It facilitates links between voluntary and community groups and other relevant bodies, and promotes the role and potential of the sector in regional matters.
